Insurance Agents Cold Call to Grow Their Business

January 12th, 2022 by

Cold Calling is an integral part of lead generation.

According to Investopedia, cold calling is the solicitation of a potential customer who had no prior interaction with a salesperson. Cold calling is one of the oldest and most common forms of marketing for salespeople.

Cold calling typically refers to solicitation by phone or telemarketing, but can also involve in-person visits, such as with door-to-door salespeople.

Many insurance agents cold call to drive new business into their agencies. While many agents absolutely hate cold calling, others thrive on it.

Cold callers today know that pitching a product is a fool’s game. It’s all about building relationships. Some advisors use the strategy of asking specific questions and offering free advice based on the response.

Creating your Script

The most important thing is creating a responsive script that works for you.

You have four segments to incorporate into your script:

  1. Engaging opening to draw in your prospects
  2. Sentence to address the problems your Prospect may be facing
  3. What kind of Insurance you can offer them to solve their problem
  4. How your policies are better than their existing ones

Warming up your Prospect List

It’s all about targeting. When insurance agents select the list they want to cold call, the key is to narrow the field to the best possible prospects. You only want to spend your time reaching out to individuals who can potentially become your customers.

Just think, out of 100 people, only 2 of them may be turning 65. If you are selling supplemental Medicare insurance, why waste your time on the 98 who are not prospective clients?

Be as narrow as you can when you pull your data. By warming up your list, you will be better able to spend your marketing time wisely.

A quick note: warming up your list is not the same as a warm list. A warm lead is defined as someone who has already expressed interest in your product.

One last caveat: Be sure to follow all the rules and guidelines. A good list company will only provide you with clean data. But you will need to stay on top of it. If you have any questions about cold calling or telemarketing, go to the FTC website.
