How are Solar Companies getting new customers? Sure, there are lots of options in the marketplace. But I contend that many of them are wasting precious advertising dollars on ads facing “non-prospects”.
I have been reading press release after press release about Solar Installation companies. These companies keep paying good money letting people know that they are installing solar panel systems on residential properties. And, yes, these panels will help homeowners reduce their energy bills through 2015 state and federal tax credits.
Running these releases are good for branding, visibility & SEO. Hopefully, these ads will help when people who are are actively seeking out a Solar Energy installer and letting their fingers do the walking in Google.
But what about the homeowners who need a little education, a little push and are perfectly happy clicking on the top ad they see in Google?
Simple Suggestions for a Solar Marketer
Solar companies are missing the boat by not reaching out directly to those homeowners who are their best prospects. And direct mail is still the best way to get into the right doors.
For example, I read this release today: “Joule is providing homeowners an installation service of solar panels on residential properties until the end of 2015. Customers fund no down payment, and the cost is $42 per month. Homeowners get a free consultation and a free estimate by completing a form on the company’s website.”
Joule Solar Energy is located in Louisiana. It would have been far more cost-effective for them to market to Homeowners in the New Orleans area then spend time/money reaching me here in South Florida.
They want people to go to their website and complete a form – what about adding a QR code or PURL to their direct mail to direct people to their site?
I also see in their Press Release that they were awarded “Master of Green Design” by a local lifestyle publication. They should take advantage of the GreenAware overlay and mail to Green Homeowners in their market. These are homeowners who care about eco-consciousness. They would be the best prospects to respond to their Solar Marketing offer.
I don’t mean to pick on the nice people at Joule Solar. I just know they (and other Solar company getting new customers) would get great ROI with a solid direct mail campaign targeting the right Homeowners in their specific markets.
