Americans spent $123.6 billion on their pets in 2021. The top spend categories include: food, supplies/OTC medicines, veterinarian care, new adoptions and pet purchases. Plus – we can add in pet services, like grooming, boarding, dog walking and dog-sitting.
On average, Pet Owners spend $1,600.00 per year on their Dogs, $1,200 per year on their Cats. Pet food is the highest category of spend, with $50 million spent in 2021.
BTW – Millennials have the highest percentage of pet ownership – 32% – of all the generational segments. Another interesting statistic, provided by Rainwalk Pet Insurance company, is that Wyoming, West Virginia, Idaho and Nebraska are the states with the highest percentage of pets per household!
